Ayurveda is a healing system that embraces food as life-giving energy, and a way of understanding our individual nature and the influences around us to determine how well the food will serve us. Ayurveda explains that our dietary needs and digestion are affected by the rhythms of nature and the changes that occur in our lives.
We are all made up of a particular combination of the 5 Elements, and that elemental makeup creates our blueprint for optimal health. These elements are known as our dosha or constitution. Our elemental combination guides us through our choices for diet and lifestyle on a daily and seasonal basis.
In these two classes, we will explore the fundamentals of Ayurveda and how the 5 Elements govern the qualities in our lifestyles, food, and habits. We will discuss daily habits, meal timing, self-care, exercise, and sleep hygiene to support each of our own unique combinations of the elements and the optimal times of day for each activity. All the qualities are unique and beneficial, yet when we live out of alignment with what each dosha needs, the imbalances lead to disarray, chaos, or dis-ease. Finding and practicing daily or seasonal routines has its place and benefits for improved everyday health!
